LESLIE LUTZ – Fractured Tide

She lives with her husband in Ft. Worth, TX, and she’s obsessed with water… specifically, open water.

After completing an advanced scuba class in Dallas, she got the opportunity to dive a shipwreck off the coast of Key Largo, FL, and has been fixated on the mysteries that lurk the heart of the deep ever since.

She loves a good mystery, especially if it’s shrouded in shadows and creepy “what-ifs” that keep you up all night.

Today, we’re going to dig into the pages of her debut novel, which could very well be the baby that was produced when LOST and Stranger Things shared a drunken weekend in Tahiti…

Please welcome our tour guide for today’s adventure, Leslie Lutz…

LOST meets Stranger Things in this eerie, Young Adult thriller

Sia practically grew up in the water scuba diving, and wreck dives are run of the mill. Take the tourists out. Explore the reef. Uncover the secrets locked in the sunken craft. But this time … the dive goes terribly wrong.

Attacked by a mysterious creature, Sia’s boat is sunk, her customers are killed, and she washes up on a deserted island with no sign of rescue in sight. Waiting in the water is a seemingly unstoppable monster that is still hungry. In the jungle just off the beach are dangers best left untested. When Sia reunites with a handful of survivors, she sees it as the first sign of light. Sia is wrong.

Between the gulf of deadly seawater in front of her and suffocating depth of the jungle behind her, even the island isn’t what it seems…

The immersive SciFi novel from Leslie’s husband, Russell Lutz…

At the beginning of the Twenty-Third Century, the colonization ship Hermione, under the watchful care of two androids, brings one hundred thousand settlers to the planets and moons of the Iota Horologii system. The colony takes its initial, hesitant steps as amateur flier Eliot Burke pilots the first landing in this new system and claims the landing site for his family’s new farm. Slowly, citizens like Burke turn the barren ground of their new home into the breadbasket of the system. Decades later we join a soldier and a scientist on safari through jungles stranger and more dangerous than any on Earth. In Iota’s halls of power, we witness the political machinations of a government tearing itself apart. We meet a brilliant young scientist whose passionate vision of the future is clouded by love. Through it all, we follow the fates of the Burke family as they, like so many on their home planet, struggle to make their farm a success. Finally, we ride with a platoon of Rangers on a bold mission to find clues to the mystery: Why did Iota Horologii break contact with Earth? The answer leaves the Iota System changed forever…

The captivating novel behind the blockbuster movie…

Cloud Atlas begins in 1850 with Adam Ewing, an American notary voyaging from the Chatham Isles to his home in California. Along the way, Ewing is befriended by a physician, Dr. Goose, who begins to treat him for a rare species of brain parasite… Abruptly, the action jumps to Belgium in 1931, where Robert Frobisher, a disinherited bisexual composer, contrives his way into the household of an infirm maestro who has a beguiling wife and a nubile daughter… From there we jump to the West Coast in the 1970s and a troubled reporter named Luisa Rey, who stumbles upon a web of corporate greed and murder that threatens to claim her life… And onward, with dazzling virtuosity, to an inglorious present-day England; to a Korean superstate of the near future where neocapitalism has run amok; and, finally, to a postapocalyptic Iron Age Hawaii in the last days of history.

But the story doesn’t end even there. The narrative then boomerangs back through centuries and space, returning by the same route, in reverse, to its starting point. Along the way, Mitchell reveals how his disparate characters connect, how their fates intertwine, and how their souls drift across time like clouds across the sky…

Book #1 in the riveting Southern Reach Trilogy…

Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide; the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In book one of the Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.

The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one another, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself…

What is a goal? It’s been defined in many ways, most of them so complex that things get fuzzy and complicated. Put simply, a goal is something you want to do. PUSH is designed to help readers think about things more simply. Identify your goals and put forth the simple, dedicated effort to achieve them.

You may not realize it, but you’re being watched. It happens each day in the most undetectable way. Somewhere, someone is watching. You touch more lives and topple more dominoes than you could ever imagine. For someone, you are the light in their darkness or the example to which they aspire.

Why do you do what you do? It’s a useful question to ponder. If you knew that no one would hear your song, would you still sing? Knowing that the chairs in the auditorium will be empty, will you still take the stage and dance just as enthusiastically? Explore why you do what you do and develop self-trust and quiet confidence.
