Between the ages of 12 and 19, he was fired from approximately nine different jobs… including newspaper delivery boy (for dereliction of duty), apartment complex maintenance man (for general incompetence), and photo darkroom attendant (for dereliction of duty, general incompetence, and the inappropriate use of a darkroom).
Putting his sketchy job history behind him, he has gone on to author a number of bestselling books, including THE LONG AND FARAWAY GONE, which won the Edgar, the Anthony, the Barry, and the Macavity Awards in 2016, as well as state sponsored awards from Alabama and Oklahoma.
